Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. We strongly recommend visiting us before making your choice so you can see our welcoming environment first-hand.

We also offer 30 hours free Nursery provision, subject to eligibility. Details regarding this can be found in the 'Our School' section of this website.

How the Process Works

The admissions process for primary schools is ‘co-ordinated’. This means that all Local Authorities work together to ensure parents receive only one school place offer. The process is identical for all parents, regardless of where you live or which school you prefer

- If you live in Stockport: You must apply directly to Stockport Council, even if you are applying for a school outside the borough. Applications must be submitted via the Stockport Council Online Education Portal.

- If you live outside Stockport: You must submit your application to your home Local Authority. Your council will then liaise with Stockport Council regarding your application.

Deferred Entry

Children are not legally required to be in full-time education until the term following their fifth birthday. However, Stockport Council arranges for all children to start school in a single Reception intake in the September following their fourth birthday.

If you feel your child is not ready and wish to defer their entry, this may be possible. Any deferral must be discussed and agreed upon with our Headteacher once your child has been allocated a place.

All applications for places at Torkington Primary School (Nursery, Reception and in year transfers) must be completed online using the Stockport Council Admissions Website. Admission & Transition Policy

In the summer term we hold meetings for new Reception and new Nursery parents. We will write to all parents of the children who have been allocated places at Torkington inviting them to attend.
