Another fantastic festive season! Congratulations to all the children who have been amazing in all the Christmas performances and activities and thank you to the staff, PTA members and other volunteers for all their enthusiasm and hard work to support the children.
On Tuesday 4th December our Year 6 children joined Year 6 children from other Primary schools in Hazel Grove in a Christmas celebration at Norbury Church. The theme for the performances was linked to God and Love. They gave a wonderful performance of Boyce and Stanley's 'Love Shone Down'.
On Friday 9th November we had a special Remembrance Assembly attended by a representative from the Royal British Legion and Tony Seager, a retired Army Officer, followed by a Question and Answer session with our Learning Council. Thank you for all the wonderful poppies that were made and contributed to our Remembrance Display.
Stockport Schools have faced per-pupil spending cuts of 8% since 2010. Some schools are now facing the prospect of redundancies to balance the budget, the situation is worsening, and this is having a detrimental effect on our children's education. Torkington are supporting other Stockport Schools in a Day of Action on October 12th calling for fair funding for Schools. On Monday 23rd April we were chosen to help launch the 'Big Pedal' Bike and Scoot to school event, in association with Sustrans. School was visited by the famous cyclist Mark Beaumont, who broke the World Record for cycling around the world. The event was filmed live for BBC Breakfast and has been shown on several other media platforms. Well done to all the children for their starring roles!
On Wednesday 28th February we were visited by Michael Churm, a British Paralympic sprinter. Through his career he was consistently ranked in the world top 10 and has won various medals, including a Silver Medal at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics in the 4 x 100 relay.
On Thursday 18th January our lacrosse team took part in the Stockport Schools Lacrosse Tournament at Hazel Grove High School. They were the only team to win all four of their games, winning the tournament and securing a place at the Finals in February.
