Torkington has a Learning Council of children who have been elected by their class to talk about, investigate and explore learning in school. This enables children to have valuable, effective input into the way they learn in their classes, and the topics they study.
Each class from Year 2 upwards takes part in a democratic process to elect 2 members, who then gather and represent the views of their peers. The children from Year 6 help to represent the children in Year 1 and Reception.
Projects currently concluded or underway include:
An art project with a Creative Director where Growth Mindset skills were investigated and represented pictorially; for example a visual depiction of perseverance and reflection.
Descriptions for the ideal teacher, feedback, classroom layout and lessons.
Designing a questionnaire about feeling safe in school and making a display in the hall about it.
