You are here: Our School | Headteacher's Welcome
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about our school. Here at Torkington we believe that every child has their own individual talents, skills and abilities and our responsibility is to recognise and nurture their aspirations to be the very best they can be, in whatever area of the curriculum.
We have a growth mind-set culture at Torkington and this enables us to equip the children with the key life skills to allow them to meet new challenges with optimism and resilience. My colleagues and I share the philosophy that intelligence (including emotional intelligence) is expandable and not fixed. Our vision statement: nurturing potential, inspiring excellence, is central to all that underpins our work with the children. (The vision for the school’s future has unified staff, governors and parents. Aspirations are high. OFSTED2012)
As a school, we are committed to our own adult learning; we are a founder member of the Empower School Alliance which is centred on the Gatley Teaching School. Being a member of this alliance gives us the opportunity to work with other successful schools to share and develop outstanding practice. We are a strategic partner school for the North West1 Maths Hub and are one of the few schools in the North West that has adopted the “Singapore” maths teaching programme. All my colleagues have (or are about to have) completed nationally accredited leadership Programmes and I am an LLE (Local Leader of Education); all of which means that our school can be deployed to support other schools to improve.
I am extremely proud of our school and the team that makes it such a successful and enjoyable learning journey for our children. If you require any further information or would like to visit us, please feel free to contact us and I will show you round.
